Giovanni Gastel

MISTER, CERNOBBIO, KRISTEN MC MENAMY, 1991 ELLE ITALIA, 2005 KRISTEN MC MENAMY, 1991-2006

Giovanni Gastel is among the greatest Italian photographers. He was the nephew of world famous film director Luchino Visconti. He began his photographic career in the 70s. Meeting agent Carla Ghiglieri allowed him to approach the world of fashion and start the collaboration with the most important magazines in the sector. Giovanni Gastel died in 2021 due to Covid19, when he was only  65 years old. His enormous photographic production is there to testify to his being a man with a noble and kind soul, a lover of humanity and its beauty. The image we see portrays the model Kristen McMenamy and encapsulates the deep empathy and poetry of the author, who was able to reproduce in his images what he was able to read in people. In no other way would it have been possible to transform an icy beauty into a bewitching contemporary siren, whose gorgeous body unravels into an ancestral liquidity, letting her deep and magnetic gaze replace her mythological song.
